It is possible to pursue an M.C.L. or LL.M. with a research focus consisting of course and seminar work in the first term of enrollment and extended individual supervised research in the second term. A master’s program with a research emphasis of more than six credit hours requires permission of the Law School’s Graduate Committee. Considerations for approval include the quality of the student’s academic performance in the fall semester and the research proposal, as well as the interest and availability of faculty supervisors. Admitted students with an interest in this option should contact the Assistant Dean for International Affairs prior to their arrival in Ann Arbor.

ON CAMPUS The Lawyers Club The Lawyers Club is a unique, on-campus housing option offering convenience, camaraderie, and safety, and is perfect for students wishing to live in a law-student-exclusive dorm setting. Thanks to a generous donation from Charles T. Munger of Berkshire Hathaway, the Lawyers Club reopened in fall 2013 with extensive renovations. Other University Housing Family housing, as well as housing for single graduate students, is offered at Northwood Community Apartments, located on North Campus, about three miles from Central Campus and the Law School. Some of these apartments and townhouses are furnished, others are not. Free and frequent University bus service is available between the two locations. The Northwood Community Apartments also offer additional resources for families, such as child care and English classes for spouses, partners, and children. Supply is limited, so applicants are encouraged to contact U-M Housing as soon as possible.
